Sculpted with Lunar Tools

Wearing his NASA-supplied boots and using his lunar hammer, Alan Bean the Apollo astronaut pounded flagstaff, broke off pieces of large rocks and drove tubes into moon soil to collect samples.

For years, Alan Bean the artist has used the same type of Apollo boots, lunar hammer and tube to sculpt a textured surface on his paintings, providing inimitable authenticity and a sense of the ruggedness of the moon surface.

A short list of available Alan Bean original paintings that were sculpted with lunar tools can be found in Available Originals.
